Climate Change

Climate change isn’t a distant future problem, it’s unfolding right now. As global temperatures rise due to human activities like burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial emissions, the impacts ripple through every system we depend on.

From melting ice caps and ocean acidification to extreme weather, shifting food systems, and poor air quality, warming affects how we grow food, where we can live, and the health of ecosystems worldwide. What makes today’s climate crisis especially alarming is speed: Earth is warming 27× faster than past climate shifts, leaving little time for species, ecosystems, and communities to adapt.

Earth has experienced five mass extinctions, each driven by natural forces, but scientists warn we may be entering a sixth, and this one is human-caused. Extinction rates are hundreds to thousands of times higher than natural levels and crossing 2°C of warming risks irreversible damage. We’re already at roughly 1.5°C, with impacts falling disproportionately on communities near the equator, widening global inequality. The path forward is clear: transitioning to renewable energy, climate-smart systems, and a circular economy paired with everyday choices that add up. Individual actions matter, but collective change matters most.
